In East Asian culture, each year is associated with a specific zodiac animal, and as the New Year approaches, people exchange wishes for abundant blessings connected to that year’s animal. It is also believed that carrying accessories or talismans featuring the zodiac animal of the year can bring good luck.
This idea inspired a small project: 2022 Tiger 부적 [bu-jeok]: Talisman
The card can be used as a bookmark or even kept in your wallet to invite good fortune throughout the year. After all, there’s no harm in carrying a cute little card for extra luck!
As many may already know, 2022 was the Year of the Tiger. For this project, I took inspiration from various tiger artworks from the Joseon Dynasty. Using Illustrator, I created a tiger illustration that incorporates additional graphical elements commonly found in traditional Bujeok. I then refined the piece in Photoshop, ensuring a cute and playful style.
